Some of the watches I've watched here restored, and at first glance; prior to restoration, I'd probably never have given a second look. But as always, once restored, I find them fascinating, unique, and special, and I'd wished they'd all be a nice part of my collection. Maybe, as I mentioned before, most of these watches once before were just that, watches, mass produced just to fill a market. But somehow, a once worn then beat up watch put in the drawer, long forgotten, then passed and cast off into the rubbish bin seems to me to be what we consumers of goods do best; use and abuse and move on to the next best thing. These items often only serve us with temporary pleasure as they wind away their useful time. And off to the store we go to buy replacements of newer, flashier, brighter designs. But somehow when these old worn relics of past are then delivered into the hands of a master watch maker, something special occurs. The master watch maker can see the gem from the war scars, then takes the time to offer it a good restoration and new a beginning. It is here that to me, the watch becomes something truly quite unique, like being tenderly brought back to life with care and love... and to me, that is what makes them all that much more special. An old watch given a new lease on life seems to have far more appeal to me than any new, nice and shiny watch. Imagine then talking about it to someone who admires it, and then you'd say, "yeah, but you should have seen it before," and then they will be that more amazed at its true beauty.

I’ve actually got a similar watch, mine has a luminescent dial instead of the blue and had a simple rubber strap rather than the stainless steel exoskeleton and also the case opened from the back instead of the front. It was my wife’s wedding gift to me back in the late 90s.. It’s been sitting in a drawer for quite some time I want to repair it myself. I have ordered the new capacitor and a new strap for it. I’m going to see how I go just replacing the capacitor because I don’t think I’m confident enough to completely tear it down with no experience. I bought a couple of Chinese mechanical watches to practice on. I think once I’m confident that I can reassemble one of those then I might tackle a full service on my Seiko … these things are a lot more complicated than I thought they were, just as complicated mechanically as a traditional automatic watch with the added complication of electronics. While my watch is not quite as beat up as this one it does have a fair bit of surface scratches in the dial and the brush steel. Also instead of the case being fully steel mine is plastic with a brush steel cover over the front but it’s the same 5M42 movement so this video was very helpful… definitely going to save it for later as a reference. thank you for making such great content

Don't be fooled by thinking that the coof is new; it's been around for decades, and we've all had it; one variant or the other. It is just recently that 'IT' was given a scary name for all to fear... but not to fear, just don't fall for the hype. There's roughly 19 different variants of the coof, but most we've had around for decades. But when tested now, it comes up 'coof' to scare the baJesus out of you. And what they do not tell you about 'IT' when you're tested, is what variant it is... you are just told that it's the coof, and off you go thinking the end is nye. So, for over the entire time of this 'pandemic', as if all other bugs took a vacation, when tested, most were told (if one had symptoms) you've got 'IT' -- stay home and rest. Only because we all know what happens if you go to the 'H" -- you don't come out.

I have the same watch and while disassembling it I noticed that as I was removing the balance, the wheel was not connected to the cock. I didn't force it or anything do I have to replace the whole balance assembly?
